Yep, disguising your link or really protecting your link to keep it safe. I have found that if you are able to cloak your links your affiliate commissions can go up tremendously because people can’t change your id or drop off part of the URL! Are you doomed to failure in your business? Many will tell you that. After all, most small business ventures fail sometime within the first five years. Many people, sometimes even though well meaning, will try to discourage you from starting your own business. They will say you have to have a natural aptitude and talent for being in business. Or they might say, you have to be a born entrepreneur. It’s your choice whether to believe them or not, but I say if you are motivated to start your own business chances are you have these qualities to some degree already. Sure, there ARE skills that you absolutely need to have to be a successful businessperson. The good news though, is there are many ways to develop those skills along the way. Instead of focusing on those skills at first, you should be thinking about the qualities inherent to all good entrepreneurs. First is perseverance. Remember your research paper/project you had to write back in school? Well this is your research project on steroids! At the beginning, you may learn many new things and concepts from your research that require further study and understanding. You move forward slow, but steady. The danger being, that you give up just before you find the particular information you are seeking. If you keep plugging away and compiling the necessary information, you will end up with very nice finished product. This persistence and perseverance is the same thing you need in business. You must keep at it until you get to the point of success. In the business world, perseverance certainly can take you a long way but a second valuable attribute is for one to have thick skin. SEO may not be that difficult, but it certainly is not easy either. If you want to rank well in the search engines there are some rules that you need to adhere to. When it comes to ranking well in serps the common perception is that MSN is the easiest followed by Yahoo and then Google. The thought is that Google places too much value on older pages. That means that even if your website has a lot of relevant content it may not rank in the top ten for your main keyword. All right, let’s get to the point. The first thing you need to work on is links. You need links and lots of them coming from sites that are relevant to the content on yours. For some search engines relevancy does not matter as much as others, but for Google is matters big time. Now where are these links going to come from? That is the question. They can come from quality web directories, article directories or from other sites that relate to your niche. You gain the relevancy in directories by submitting to the most relevant category to your website. With directories you should be careful of any site that has more than 20 outgoing links listed per page, displays excessive ad-sense or banner ads. Plus some other more advanced items to look for in SEO enhancements, unique on-site content and additional features. You can also receive back links by writing and publishing relevant articles on article directories. Make sure that you include keywords that you are targeting within the article itself. When writing the article keep it on point and have fun with it to make it something people want to read. You can use examples to make your points and bring more credibility. Most of all include the link back to your website within the author resource box. Without that the whole process is kind of pointless. Once the article is written search for some article directories and start submitting. Reciprocal linking is not recommended as Google frowns on this activity. Excessive reciprocal linking could result in punishment in the search engines or even banning. If you take part in this activity do so with moderation and extreme care. Three way linking was developed to get around being able to detect the link exchanges, but Google claims to be able to find those kinds of reciprocal linking activities also. Frankly with the minimal reward of reciprocal linking the risk is too great. Good optimization for search engines will take time. It does not happen overnight so prepare for a consistent hard approach to it. There is a certain amount of enjoyment in achieving goals and modifying strategies as the search engine algorithms change. Keep in mind that if you focus on Google the rankings in the other search engines should also follow. SEO does not have to be expensive, but it will take an investment of some part from you. Either money or time, if you choose to go low budget be prepared to invest your time.

To be a successful sales person in any field, one must understand the psychological principles that go into making a sale. Without an understanding of what makes people buy what they buy, and eschew what they don’t want, we can never hope to be more than a journeyman seller. Here are some things to consider as you enter the sales profession. These lessons are not just about sales, however. They relate to everything we do as human beings. How we interact with others, how we can gain influence over people. It’s not magic tricks. It’s just simple psychology. When we buy something, there are a few steps we go through in every transaction. To begin with, we have to desire something. We have to feel some need, or want for the item in question. Without this initial interest, we merely pass along, leaving an item on the shelf, or on the car lot, or in the hands of the salesperson. A person must have an initial interest to even consider making a sale to them. Of course, this interest can be generated, but it is better if there is a certain amount of motivation there from the beginning. Cold calling is one of the least successful business practices, and for good reason. Yes, a skilled cold caller can make a living simply through the law of averages. But a person with a desirable product, a person with a product that draws people in–at least a little–will find a much easier road. After we experience that initial interest, we then make a decision to purchase the item in question. This is not a final decision, but rather a warm up decision, and it can change, depending on the price and commitment to the product. Yes, we feel this is something we want or need, but there are still some questions. At this point, we may look to our friends, family, or business associates to reassure us that the purchase is a wise one. We may choose to heed or disregard that advice, but it is important that we seek it. Most prospects do not buy a product or service on first exposure. The average is 7 exposures before they buy. Consumers want to feel warm and fuzzy they are buying a good product and won’t be taken. The fear of being taken is a result of a few unscrupulous people out there that are giving the internet a bad name. If you have a system that follows up with your prospects (like an email auto-responder) you will increase your sales exponentially! The more you follow up with your prospects the more they will trust you….and the more they trust you the more they will buy from you. Finally, after making the purchase, consumers want to feel some sort of reassurance afterwards. This is where many sales people falter. They don’t follow up if they don’t feel there is any further sales opportunity with the customer. This can leave the customer feeling alienated, and even as if they’ve been taken. In most states, there are laws that give the customer a certain window of time during which they can change their mind on a purchase. If you as the salesperson do not follow up with your customer, the chances are much greater that they will back out, leaving all of that hard work you did to make the sale out in the yard to rust. Social media websites remain an interesting mechanism for mining marketing potential if for no other reasons than social media is so, well, social. I came across an ezine recently that encouraged visitors to visit a celebrity social media site for an interview that was particularly compelling. Prior to posting the ezine the owner also posted several appropriate comments in both the blog and guest book. They were also listed as one of the celebrity’s friends. This may be considered groundwork for social media marketing potential. One click on their photo and the visitor who came to find out more about the celebrity can find out more informal information about the business and the owner that originally sent them to the social media site. This savvy business owner comes away from this gentle nudge to a celebrity social media site inextricably linked to the celebrity because of a few simple posts. Some visitors will likely view the site owner in a different light (for better or worse). The combination of uses for social media sites is astounding. If there were no marketing potential in social media why do you find so many record labels, book companies, recording artists, authors and comedians with their own unique social media site? Many of these sites will also include video streaming to further interest the site visitors. It is a unique twist to discover a link based on little more than inference (i.e. this celebrity is my friend) and the marketing potential such inference suggests. Paid online surveys are a big business on the Internet and a good way to make some extra money. Thousands of surveys are being made every week, and tens of thousands of survey participants are receiving checks in the mail and deposits in their PayPal account every month. It’s easy to join them, if you do it right! The challenge is that most of the paid surveys being made (75-80%) are made by low-pay/no-pay survey makers and are mostly a waste of time. Not worth the effort to fill out the questionnaires. To make any money you must be signed up with the 20-25% that are legitimate paid online surveys that pay well and on time. There are over 700 survey makers in the U.S. and over 3,000 worldwide. While you could just sign up with all of them, try them and discard those that don’t really pay or that abuse your privacy, this would take a lot of time and effort. (All these survey makers are independent competitors; you must sign with each one separately.) Since the survey makers that really pay participants generally do not pay recruiting fees, the best way to get the use of a good list of survey makers is from a paid survey membership site. When you pay the site with the list, they try to please you, and you have a chance to get a good list. “Free lists” are actually being paid for, indirectly, by the no-pay/low-pay survey makers to recruit more gullible survey participants to work for next to nothing. Then consider how much business may be lost if another brand makes a bigger splash than your own.
